425 Second Street Commercial Remodel – San Francisco Year Originally Built: 1919 Sq. Feet of Building: 48,860 S.F. Owner: U.S. Enterprise Corp. Contractor: Nielsen/Aire Corp. Construction Cost: $700,000 This 6-story concrete loft building in San Francisco's South of Market district was in need of modernizing. The owner wanted gradually to convert garment shops and other offices into facilities for computer and Internet related businesses. Nearly the entire building has been remodeled. The conversion of the second floor to multimedia offices and renovation of the third floor triggered major disabled access, electrical and egress code upgrades. The elevator was upgraded, restrooms were brought up to code, mechanical systems upgraded. The lobby and entrance were completely remodeled.
