Twenty-Ninth Avenue Addition & Remodel - San Francisco Year Originally Built: 1910 Sq. Feet of Building: 4,500sf Sq. Feet of Addition: 2,200sf Contractor: ALCO construction The remodel and addition of this five bedroom residence began with rearranging and combining existing rooms to create more open, larger spaces. New stairs leading to a new second story were placed near the center of the building. Borrowed light from a skylight above the stair offers natural light to the upstairs and downstairs interior bathrooms. The entrance hall is separated from the living room by a curvilinear glass block partition. City planning codes required retaining portions of the existing façade, which was the source of the two-story bay window at the street. The front elevation has new triple lap redwood siding, which has its origins in portions of the existing 1910 residence. Work included a full seismic upgrade, removal of an in-law apartment, new electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems.
