Kitchen Remodel - San Francisco Year Originally Built: 1920's Sq. Feet of Project: 350sf Contractor: Don Odgers After sixty years, it was time for a change. The owners of this 1920's house wanted an open, contemporary kitchen in place of a constricting assemblage of small, dark rooms. Laundry room, bath and servant's rooms were combined to form one large room with abundant light opening onto the back garden. Custom designed cabinetry and detailing is sympathetic to an older home. Four distinct zones were created within the space: breakfast area with writing desk; kitchen proper; pantry and service entry area behind a tiled partition; and wet bar. The original kitchen was converted into a laundry room. The project was designed in collaboration with Peter and Mathew Winkelstein and was featured in the November 1987 issue of Sunset Magazine.
