Stanislaus County Courthouse Disabled Access Ramp and Entrance - Modesto, CA Year Originally Built: 1958 Sq. Feet of Building: N/A Owner: Stanislaus County Chief Executive Office Contractor: Silveira General Construction Construction Cost: $160,000 After studying three different ramp alternatives and a fourth alternative for a platform lift for the main entrance of the Stanislaus County Courthouse, a switchback ramp was selected. The decision to proceed with the 115 foot long concrete ramp was made after consultation with local representatives of persons with disabilities, the Fire Marshal, Courthouse staff and County personnel. Issues on security, maintenance and basement egress were studied before this alternative was selected. To accommodate a new ramp, the existing exit stairs from the basement were reconfigured. The new railings resemble existing aluminum guardrails to integrate the ramp with the existing building. Power - assisted wider doors replaced existing narrow doors at the main entrance. New signage is provided throughout the site to direct people with disabilities to the accessible route and entrance. Lighting along the ramp and a drainage system were also installed.
